How it's done

Attach an air-filled balloon to your ceiling and hang the new elf from it using string or tape. Position the elf so it appears to have arrived by floating in on the balloon. Include an introductory note asking children to name the new friend. This works equally well for introducing a new elf or as a solo arrival scene.

Pets in the house?

Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.

Why this works

Entryway scenes are high-traffic and time-flexible — the elf greets arrivals whether it's 7am breakfast or a 4pm return from school. This mid-difficulty scene trades a little more setup time for a bigger 'wow' moment when your kids walk in.

Variations

If it doesn't go to plan

If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy") — the discovery is the point.
