How it's done

Wrap a box large enough to contain your elf with festive wrapping paper. Cut or unfold one side of the box so your elf can be positioned popping out from inside. Apply a "Special Delivery" sticker or printed label to the front of the package. Surround the box with torn wrapping paper to enhance the "just opened" appearance.

Pets in the house?

Should be fine around pets as long as you place it out of reach.

Why this works

Entryway scenes are high-traffic and time-flexible — the elf greets arrivals whether it's 7am breakfast or a 4pm return from school. This mid-difficulty scene trades a little more setup time for a bigger 'wow' moment when your kids walk in.

Variations

If it doesn't go to plan

If the elf ends up too well-hidden and the kids can't find it, nudge them with a vague hint ("Looks like our elf went somewhere cozy") — the discovery is the point.
